Getting around London near Russell Square

The London Underground is one type of public transportation in London near Russell Square. This subway system is also known as the tube. Stations on seven tube lines are within a mile of Russell Square.

The Russell Square station is on the Piccadilly line. This line runs west from Uxbridge into central London and then north to Cockfosters. It stops at five terminals at Heathrow Airport. Passengers can also take this line to the St. Pancras train station. Trains from St. Pancras will take passengers directly to other cities in the United Kingdom. Trains from this station travel directly to Paris and Brussels through the Chunnel under the English Channel.

The Holborn station is also on the Piccadilly line. Trains on the Central line also stop here. This line travels across London from west to east. It then goes slightly north to Epping. The West Ruislip station is at the west end of the line. Shoppers can take this line to the stores in the Bond Street and Oxford Circus areas.

The Northern line stops at the Goodge Street station. Travelers can take this line south to Morden. It goes north to High Barnet and northwest to Edgware. This line stops at the Euston train station. Passengers can take Virgin Trains from this station to other cities in England. This line also stops near some of the theaters in London's West End.

Passengers can take the Circle line to the pier at Westminster to catch the ferries that travel up and down the Thames. This line travels in a loop north of the Thames. It stops near the Tower of London.

The Victoria line stops near Buckingham Palace. It will take passengers north from Brixton to Walthamstow Central. It stops at the St. Pancras train station.

The Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines also stop at the St. Pancras station. The Metrpolitan line travels northwest from Aldgate to Chesham. The Hammersmith & City line takes passengers east across London from Hammersmith to Barking.

Many London bus routes stop near Russell Square. Passengers can take 19 different routes to reach the area during the day. Those who want to take the bus at night can choose one of 20 different routes. Some of these buses stop at tube stations.

Travelers can reach Russell Square by train. The St. Pancras and Euston stations are less than a mile from Russell Square.
